Cultural Shift?
I recently learned that Japan has a culture to respect others. Japanese don't bother others, even slightly. It is a cultural thing. So when they get sick, they wear a mask. Not to protect themselves, but for others. They have been doing this forever, so wearing a mask during the corona outbreak was not new to them. But in other countries, it is very different; people do not think about others when they think about putting on a mask. They think about themselves, and that is one reason it is not mainstream in other countries to put on a mask in common flu. The corona outbreak is the first time when people have to do that! I believe this is going to create a cultural shift in other countries (I hope so), and this behavior will continue long after the pandemic.
