Complex vs meaningful

Some people write so complicatedly, fancy, and somewhat impressive that reading them is like decoding an unknown script! But after deciphering it, the meaning is not necessarily that great. Straightforward things put in complicated jargon. I don't understand why someone will do that? My old boss used to say - if you can't explain it to your grandmom; it means that you don't understand it yourself, explain it to me the way you will do to your grandmother..
